10 Things That Can Really Suck After Losing a Baby

How do women get over the trauma of a miscarriage or pregnancy loss?

We don't. Not really. And it gets even harder to deal with miscarriage when your best friend gets pregnant.

Sometimes writing is therapeutic. I'm putting this list together a week after Mother's Day because I know I'm not the only one struggling with this holiday in particular. Maybe you're coping with a recent miscarriage, with infertility, with fertility treatments, with pregnancy jealousy, with the concept of motherhood.

Since my miscarriage in March, we have experienced the ups and downs. Here are 10 Things That Can Really Suck After Losing a Baby.

  1. Maternity ads on Pandora & Spotify
  2. Unexpected pregnancy announcements in my Facebook newsfeed. Even worse if they've been married less time than we have.
  3. Watching your pregnant friends look more and more pregnant as time goes on.
  4. Going to baby showers. Sorry, it's not going to happen for awhile.
  5. When you hear the name you were going to use for your little one.
  6. TV shows or movies where pregnancy loss is discussed or a big plot point.
  7. Packing away the baby stuff - the journal, the test, the tiny socks, everything.
  8. Mother's Day.
  9. Song lyrics taking on a whole new meaning.
  10. Thinking you're "over it" and then unexpectedly welling up with tears at the office, at the grocery store, in the car, anywhere.
