Wonderland Wedding with Candice Dawn Photography

top wedding photography in Austin, TX

Alice in Wonderland meets Pride & Prejudice? Ummm... sign me up, please! This whimsical and elegant tea party wedding set in the outdoor garden of Hummingbird House in South Austin was everything you'd expect from the fantastic stories that inspired it.

You may think you're ready for this amazing tea party-styled photoshoot for which I was asked to model, but let me tell you -- you aren't. All of the colors and details that Texas Hill Country Styled Shoots and the selected vendors put into this still have me speechless.

These images were captured by the talented Candice Dawn Shanks of Candice Dawn Photography (who I also worked with for this and this Christmas Wedding shoot last year). I'll be sharing other photos from the shoot by the other photographers in their own posts as I receive them.

First Look

"Begin at the beginning and go till you come to the end; then stop." ~ Lewis Carroll

The first look is growing in popularity among brides and grooms because of the moment (and photo ops!) it affords the two of you away from the crowds and the craziness to focus on what truly matters on your wedding day: each other.

Pro - you're allowed to be an emotional mess with your person without the added stress of well-meaning onlookers.
Con - You may lose the feeling of tradition that first seeing each other at opposite ends of the aisle holds, like it likely did for your parents & grandparents.

At the Altar

A church wedding isn't for everyone! And outdoor ceremonies in scenic gardens, lakeside, and under canopies of tall redwoods have an adventurous charm.

No proper tea party-themed wedding could take place without a fittingly whimsical alter. Floral arrangements by Christie Turner Floral Designs & the custom "Love" sign by Ever Artisan Design added the perfect wedding day detail to this hedge backdrop.

Tea Time

"Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." ~ Lewis Carroll

As someone who has claimed "tea party" as the theme for my future baby shower (you know me, there's already a Pinterest board going), I couldn't get over the vintage and eclectic assortment of teacups, saucers, decor, and desserts arranged so delicately around the tables.

And who could say no to a honeysuckle-covered gazebo that can be either a private getaway for two or the perfect gathering for your most intimate friends?

Let's Run Away

"To be fond of dancing was a certain step toward falling in love." ~ Pride & Prejudice

Are you torn between eloping and a smaller wedding ceremony? Find yourself a venue that can only handle a minimal number of guests -- that way, you'll have to keep your guest list tight -- and that has plenty of pockets you can escape away to.
