1. hols.e

Hols.e’s Anacaona Intelligence collection is touchable haute couture with a streetwear aesthetic. The collection was inspired by the Taino Indian tribe native to the Dominican Republic, the designer’s home country. The translation of Anacaona, the beautiful quen of the Tainos, is “golden flower” – hence, the subtle, warm, and natural color tones of the entire collection.

2. Kindred

Your go-to retailer this season for some fresh fall looks. Causual doesn’t have to be boring, and these neutral colored everyday looks may be just what your closet has been missing. You can shop Kindred boutiques in the Kansas City area at the Plaza, Independence Center, and at Oak Park Mall.

3. Kyndra Jade

If Glinda the good witch had a clothing line, I imagine it would look a little something like Kyndra Jade’s Fall 2021 Collection. Every woman should have a fairy tale dress, and Kyndra Jade always delivers ethereal beauty with her yards of tulle and fantasy feathered wings. Personally, I think the dresses really do stand alone without the extravagant wings but for a magical photoshoot I’m all for them.

New this season from her previous collections were woodland colors that departed from her usual blues, pinks, and violet line-up. And peep those hidden details in the tulle skirts — sprigs of flowers and butterflies are nestled comfortable among the floating fabric and soft feathers.

4. Lauren Bander

Lauren Bander brought feminine modesty to the Kansas City Fashion Week runway this season with quilted velvet, flowing & unclingy fabrics, drool-worthy draping, and PUPPIES!

Lauren continues to use her platform to advocate for mental health and animal safety in a decidedly fashionable way.

6. Makaylee Gayed

Can you say “shipwreck chic?” Makaylee Gayed‘s debut KCFW collection was inspired by endangered animals, and she creatively worked real fishing nets and bullet casings into her garments and accessories. These pieces were sexy, confident, and beautifully balanced.

7. YING YING YING

The showmanship of Ying Ying Ying‘s streetwear collection was key to this final designer on KCFW Thursday night. Their “Who Are You” remix 🎶 and suspenseful delayed entrance to the runway had the audience on the edge of the seats to see the self-described “unconventional” and “edgy” designer. They play of the muted colors, strong graphics, and visible texture made this an intriguing finale.

My favorite accessory? The boots with the coin purse. And I love that the designs are made in limited quantities to help support a sustainable future.

What I Wore to the Runway Show

Despite all my planning and packing to attend 4 nights of runway shows, I completely forgot to bring my intended Thursday night outfit with me when I arrived backstage all those hours before showtime so that I’d have it to change into after walking for hols.e. I had to get creative with what I had worn all day backstage — leggings, a tank, and a buttoned blouse that made changes easy without messing up our hair and makeup.

Curious about what you should wear to a fashion show? I’ve written a post all about it! You’ll be much better prepared than I was 😅
