Build-Your-Own Pizza Party

I found one of the keys to this going smoothly is setting up stations wherever you’re hosting. So a drink station, a gathering or sitting area where guests won’t feel they’re obstructing traffic while they relax and eat, and the separate build your own pizza station.

Having the defined areas or “stations” can help with the flow of the room, with decorating, and with keeping your party at least a little bit organized.

It may seem a little strange to have your guests build their own plates instead of you as the host assembling and preparing everything for them. But it’s actually a lot of fun! And — you won’t be surprised to hear — guests want to be helpful and enjoy the party with you. So the less time you have to spend in the kitchen or prepping dishes, the more time you can spend with your guests!

Use pre-made pizza doughs

Do yourself a favor and buy the pre-made doughs. It saves you time and effort and tasted just fine.

Prep your pizza sauces

We did a traditional red pizza sauce, a creamy white pizza sauce, and a homemade BBQ sauce. I made the latter 2 the afternoon before the party, and we used a store-bought red sauce.

Select your cheeses

Mozzarella is a must for a gooey cheesy pizza. We also splurged on a fancy asiago & parmesan blend, and some feta cheese for those that wanted to sprinkle some extra on top.

Spread your toppings

Meats: Pepperoni, chicken, bacon
Veggies: green bell pepper, mushrooms, red onions, spinach, roasted peppers, basil

Set the Table

We used butcher paper as a tablecloth so that we could write out the names of all the different toppings and sauces.

Last, cook!

8 minutes directly on the oven rack and voila! Custom personal pizzas made to order!

For appetizers, we made mini Caprese salad skewers, had a block of cream cheese covered with raspberry habanero sauce for dipping, and a couple yummy cheeses.

And for drinks, a little something for everyone!

  • Aperol spritz
  • Italian cream soda
  • Smirnoff Ice variety
  • Bourbon barrel ale
  • Sweet tea

Simple and easy! And such a fun way to celebrate my birthday with a few friends and family in our small apartment.
