Uzuri Closet
Bold patterns, muted colors, and mini-me matching outfits defined Uzuri Closet’s runway collection. No detail of these culturally inspired designs was too small for even the children’s outfits, including the fabric-covered buttons.

Hide Society
Hide Society put a line of high quality and creative handbags on the KCFW runway. After their feature on Fox 4 News Kansas City, there was a lot of anticipation to see the full range on the catwalk. Models wore simple but stylish clothing to act as a backdrop to the real stars of the show: the leather bags.
Rachel Ervin, the 25-year-old designer and KC local, is the sole owner and designer at Hide Society where she crafts a wide range of leather goods from her two-bedroom apartment-turned-workshop.

Regal Status
Regal Status models stomped down the runway to “Who’s That Girl” by eve as they redefined formal wear with more personality and sass. Dark colors were accented with pops of red, animal print and gold jewelry.

The Shepherd's Studio
Cardigans and jewelry that you wanted to reach out and touch as they came down the catwalk. But even in the front row you couldn’t tell how soft these garments were until visiting the maker’s booth on Friday night. Master weaver & designer of The Shepherd’s Studio, Sally Brandon hand selects her alpaca wool, resourcefully uses scraps and cutoffs for her jewelry and purses, and designs for comfort that considers the environmental impact of fashion.
Elle Glo
Take a medieval dystopia and put it on the runway with a killer playlist and you have Elle Glo’s streetwear collection.
The tribal-esque facepaint and squigly patterns were in sharp contrast to the acrylic squares and bulky headphones that accessorized the garments and the models.

Astoria Jackson Studio
KCFW has always shown a diversity of body types, ages, and colors on the runway. So a designer that fully embraces inclusive sizing isn’t new. But Astoria Jackson Studio brought muted colors, soft fabrics, and mix+matchability to the runway in her ready-to-wear collection that made Fashion Week a little more attainable for most people.

Ehtyl B.
Bright bold patterns & prints and peplum silhouettes defined Ehtyl B.’s strong and structured fall collection for kids and adults.
Any of these one-of-a-kind garments would make a strong statement when you walk into a room but would not be out of place at your neighborhood party or a fancy date night.

Shop the Look
Night Two I wore a dress made and worn by my mother in the 90s. It was a sweet surprise for her, because while she knew I had the dress, she didn’t know I was planning to wear it for anything special. I’ve linked red sequin dresses that are similar in style or essence to this vintage beauty.
