I’m perpetually disappointed that Hermione’s riddle solving in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone didn’t make it into the film every time I watch it, despite how well done and enjoyable the rest of the movie was. And Kiera Knightley’s performance as Elizabeth Bennet was great, but the BBC adaptation featuring Colin Firth will forever be my favorite version of Pride and Prejudice film options.
And yet, these are the books that I would LOVE to see on the big screen (and maybe a few other movie worthy books that could be remade to be more true to the original text).

Books That I Can't Wait to See Made Into [good] Movies
1. The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
I didn’t fully appreciate this book when it was assigned class reading in middle school, but it has become my go-to travel novel for its size, familiarity, and story. Kit is a relatable heroine for young women of all ages, navigating a world of personal change in the midst of colonial America’s witch craze, and I’m not embarrassed to admit that Nat Eaton was my first literary crush.
2. Trickster’s Choice (and sequel, Trickster’s Queen) by Tamora Pierce
Another young adult novel/series on my list – but here I am almost 30 and I still reread both of these at least once every year. Magic, spies, romance, royal succession turmoil, a murder plot, an approachable heroine, and some familiar characters if you’ve ready any of Tamora Pierce’s many other novels.
3. Karen Kingsbury’s Firstborn series, starting with Fame
If you like Christian fiction and films, you’ll enjoy any of Karen Kingsbury’s many series and standalone books. My personal favorite is probably Ever After, but I think it might be too sad to sit through a movie. But her Firstborn series would make such a great TV series or movie collection! There’s the soap-y reunited family element combined with the typical Hallmark Christmas theme of a small-town girl and big-city boy falling in love but how can they make two different worlds work? The answer, of course, is faith, forgiveness, and perseverance.
4. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
I know, I know. Anne Hathaway did an amazing job as Ella in the 2009 film and it was an entertaining movie BUT it was so far from Gail Carson Levine’s wonderful character descriptions and original storyline – even skipping some key plot points! I’d love to see a movie adaptation that was more true to the book with fewer musical numbers.
